7 Telltale Signs of Hemorrhoids

1. Bright red blood during bowel movements

One of the most common signs of hemorrhoids is bright red blood on the toilet paper, in the toilet bowl, or on the surface of the stool. While hemorrhoids are a frequent cause of rectal bleeding, don’t assume that's the reason.

2. Itching around the anus

4. Swelling or a lump

5. A feeling of fullness

Some people describe hemorrhoids as a sensation that something is still there even after a bowel movement. This feeling of fullness or pressure can be uncomfortable and may make it seem like you haven't completely emptied your bowels.

6. Mucus or leakage

Hemorrhoids can sometimes lead to mild leakage of mucus, which may cause irritation, itching, or moisture around the anal area. While this symptom isn't discussed as often, it can be a sign that hemorrhoids are present.

7. Symptoms that keep coming back

Occasional irritation can happen for many reasons, but recurring symptoms are worth paying attention to. If you repeatedly experience bleeding, itching, swelling, or discomfort, hemorrhoids may be the underlying cause.
